My Strengths And Weaknesses Of Writing - 926 Words

I began high school as a young child with no skill in writing what-so-ever. I could not format a sentence, let alone a paper, to save my life. Writing was a whole new world, both frightening and exciting. There were so many possibilities I had yet to see and a great many things I had to learn. My strengths and weaknesses in writing have changed drastically since I began my high school English classes. In regards to the analysis essay assigned to my class regarding John Steinbeck’s â€Å"The Pearl,† my strengths contributed highly to the overall success of the paper. My weaknesses were revisited and eventually assisted in the completion of the assignment. The fact that weaknesses can be used as an advantage in my writing career shocked me at first. Once my skills began developing freshman year, I found that I was a strong writer when given the proper instruction. However, there were obvious situations where my strengths lacked significantly. My teachers made it a point t o teach pre-writing and planning before a paper was to be written. The process I use to write is very hands-on, and I do not write well when forced to specifically map out every sentence. In addition to pre-writing, editing is not my strong suit. I find it difficult to criticize my own writing, even if it desperately needs my criticism. I usually require the review of my peers and my professor if I want to feel confident about an assignment. Writing the paper itself is relatively simple, but I often struggle withShow MoreRelatedMy Strengths And Weaknesses Of Writing823 Words   |  4 Pagesaware of writing errors such as grammar, spelling, punctuation and avoid plagiarism. Our Emotions Diary Free Essays

Identifying and measuring our emotions is difficult because it is not easy to objectively assess what we are feeling at that specific situation for emotions are subjective experiences. To accurately identify the range of our emotions and to classify it correctly takes greater control and self-awareness that I could not possibly muster. I have tried to identify the emotions based on the situations that triggered it. We will write a custom essay sample on Our Emotions Diary or any similar topic only for you Order Now The James-Lange theory of emotion said that we first have physiological responses to a situation and only then will we interpret those experiences to determine the present emotion (Zajonc McIntosh, 1992). Which is actually how most of us respond to an situation, like when I knew I felt anxious because I was feeling uneasy by getting late for class. On the other hand, I also felt confused on whether I got it mixed up; whether I experienced the situation and then the physiological arousal together with the emotion occurred at the same time, the Cannon-Bard theory supports this explanation although they did not give much importance to the thoughts that occur during that experience (Stein, Trabasso Liwag, 1993). Although, we get to experience a myriad of emotions and in varying degrees, some emotions are easier to identify like happiness and anger, while differentiating being upset from being sad is difficult. I could categorize it according to whether it is positive or negative and when I smiled I knew that I was happy at that time. Facial feedback theory says that the facial changes that occur in response to an event cues our brain and then define what kind of emotion we feel at that moment (Strongman, 1996). I also observed that we tend to respond to facial expressions, like when a person burst into tears we know that she is sad or afraid. With this activity, I learned that emotions, physical arousal, cognitive thoughts, and our brain interact together to produce different emotions. As to how all these element interact remains to be discovered, which I think will always be an aspect that will remain a mystery. References Stein, N., Trabasso, T. Liwag, M. (1993). Changes Through the Inner Mirror free essay sample

I am now a writer. I think. I have learned the things needed to be a writer; I enjoy it now. I like to sit and wonder—and write. It all seems clearer: where I want to go and who I want to be. It is all much easier now. It is hard to imagine my life without my pivotal junior year in which I have turned into a butterfly, a male butterfly that is free to roam the winds created by Aeolos—and rest when dusk falls. And only at that break of twilight, will I be unfocused, because the rest—is just transparent. I have learned to see things, not as they are, or how they appear, but as how their existence molds my life. Not by their color, nor by their scent, but by the way my breath touches their surface. They do not have a meaning, but rather a purpose that I am destined to decipher. And to learn the importance of every particle involved in playing a vital role in the existence of such natural beauty. I am not exactly sure of where I am at this moment, but I do know where I would have been if I had not taken the challenge. Nowhere—no place of importance. Somehow, the skills I learned in junior English III AP class went beyond my paper and pen and caused a permutation in my perception of life. A change that has almost given me—power. And not power like those of God, but power to know and to account for the things around me. Just enough of it to know that I emptied myself in order to obtain it. I simply gained the power to learn, and perhaps, in another realm of existence, the power to teach. I hope to one day escape my reveries and bring with me the virtues of becoming a great mentor, for that will show the master skill of learning as well as the truth in knowing to precede, and then to prevail. The world appeared so enigmatic, and now it seems that has only worsened. However, it has become a challenging puzzle that I am eager to parlay, and not a blurred vision of a mournful morning in which I find nothing but questions that seem to have no answer. Now I wake with the moon, every morning I can, in order to get the most out of life and the most of every moment. I never waste a minute, much less a breath, for my life is the most important thing to me. And you, pedagogue—had the power to alter it. This journey through the world of art has been an unforgettable one. I have surpassed my fears of writing, and I am no longer scared to read some of the world’s most amazing pieces of literature. It was at the end of this odyssey that I learned the importance of connecting my mind with the minds of others. It has given me the combination to the safe of life. This will certify that the above work is completely original.
